Marriage and Couples Counseling
Whether married or not, couples can benefit from attending counseling together. Some couples use counseling proactively to strengthen their bond and share a better understanding of one another. Some use it reactively, to address problems that have arisen while living life together. While some use it post-martially as is the case with a divorced couple attempting to sort out their differences for the benefit of their children. Premarital counseling can be beneficial to engaged couples to assist in understanding one another, and identifying any potential problems prior to marriage. Most couples seek out marriage counseling to improve a troubled relationship. Marriage counseling can address specific issues, such as the following examples:
Infidelity
Communication Issues
Money Problems
Family Conflicts
Sexual issues
Anger
Divorce
Etc
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is an opportunity to talk confidentially with a counselor about personal concerns and to facilitate personal growth. The counselor and client work together to define and discuss personal issues, and to reach mutually agreed upon goals. Issues approached in individual counseling include, but are not limited to the following:
Depression
Anxiety
Relationship difficulties
Family conflict
Trauma
Abuse
Anger
Etc...
Family Counseling
Family therapy is usually entered into with the goal to resolve conflicts and improve communication between family members. Issues include the aforementioned items as well as others. It may include all family members, or just those most able to participate.
Christian Counseling
The Bible speaks to every area of life, but more so it speaks of a Person. Ultimately the Bible is about pointing us to a relationship with that person-Jesus Christ. The Bible was given to reveal Christ as the one who is able to make all things new. I believe real and lasting change occurs when people know themselves and their problems within a vital and living relationship with Jesus. It is my belief that counseling is most effective when Christ is at the center of the counseling process.
